I Wear a Mask

I Wear a Mask

I Wear A Mask

"I Wear A Mask," has become a favorite storybook for my 3 1/2 year old grandson Atreus. In Dubai, it is necessary to wear a mask in all indoor buildings. The rhyming structure, the imagination, the developmental age he is at, all seem to "work," with this book.
A playful book, it gives children the idea to pretend to be somebody with an interesting job, while they wear their masks. I truly wish every preschool, kindergarten and Grade 1 class had this book. It encourages a practice that keeps us healthier, in what can only be called a challenging time.
Atreus's favorite page is construction worker. We just went to the Burj Khalifa, one of the tallest buildings in the world. 12,000 construction workers worked on it.
I did not want to, I did not ask,
But suddenly I wore a mask.
It felt so strange and so uncool,
To have to wear a mask at school.
Lots of people wear masks each day,"
I heard my mama laugh and say.
"Let's pretend, let us see.
Let's imagine who we can be.
His favorite:
I wear a mask and I can be...
a construction worker!
With sturdy boots and a hard hat, too,
and masks for certain jobs I do.
With wood and concrete, steel and glass,
I build it strong so it will last.
